Orientation Leaders (OLs) work with almost every aspect of the summer orientation program. Their primary
responsibilities are to help new students and parents during the freshmen and transfer programs. They facilitate small group
discussions with students, direct participants, answer questions, assist with testing, and help ease the transition
to IU.
Essentially, OLs are ambassadors who teach participants about IU resources, opportunities, and expectations.
OLs live in the residence center where students are housed during New Student Orientation. They are
selected early in the spring semester, attend training in April, and begin full training just prior to the summer
program. They work full-time from early June through late July. They receive room and board and a stipend for these
weeks. The total compensation package is over $3,000 for just eight weeks out of your summer!
In addition, OLs may be able to receive academic credit for Q398 for being an Orientation Leader through The College of Arts
and Sciences. More information is available at the Career Development Center website.
